Porta Garibaldi was built in 1848 by architect James
Moraglia.

Before that time, there was another door, and it
ancient Roman character was named Porta Comasina;
it arose out of the village of the same name, where they had residence
laborers and bricklayers.

In the Napoleonic era, the government made a plan to remake
of the entrances that were to be used at toll booths,

The project was initially entrusted to Cagnola

L'arco trionfale a una fornace era fiancheggiato da due caselli daziari,
divisi dall'arco tramite dei passaggi pedonali.
Il materiale utilizzato per la sua costruzione fu la pietra di Viggiù;
Viggiù è un piccolo paese in provincia di Varese famoso
per le sue roccie di qualità.
Sulla sommità dell'arco, vennero collocati quattro colossi
che simbologgiavano i fiumi più importanti della regione:
Po, Adda, Ticino ed Olona.
Fu dedicata a Garibaldi nel 1860 in merito alle eccellenti vittorie
conseguite a Varese e San Fermo.
Al giorno d'oggi si presenta a noi con Doric style.
